5 Reasons to #MakeTheJourney

Northern Nights Music Festival will be making its way home to The Redwood-lined Eel River for its sixth year on July 20-22. The boutique camping festival, which boasts alum including Odesza, The Polish Ambassador, and Gorgon City Live just dropped its 2018 Phase 1 Lineup and it did not disappoint. The carefully-curated lineup features takeovers from both Dirtybird and Brownies & Lemonade, and names like Thomas Jack, Sage the Gemini, The Emancipator, and more. Big names and up-and-coming artists will take over stages including The Grove, Bunker Stage, and the late-night Silent Disco for an unforgettable three days.

And if the music alone isn’t enough to convince you, we’re sharing 5 reasons why you should #MakeTheJourney to one of Summer's most-anticipated music festivals.

1 of only 3 rivers in North America that flows South to North, California’s third largest watershed snakes its way through the festival grounds of Northern Nights, but its size isn’t why it has topped our list of reasons to #MakeTheJourney. The Eel River is home to the festival's River Stage, the most popular installation while the sun is shining. The stage echoes a variety of genres throughout the days and pays homage to the music that brings the community together, Reggae Music, on Sunday with a Tropical Vibez featuring the best local and international dancehall, soca, tropical bass, moombahton and booty-shaking music, while attendees soak up the sun in the river or escape to the shaded dance floor. Be sure to bring your sunscreen and your favorite floatie and join the #RiverFam.

Northern Nights is proud to be a pioneer in the way music festivals incorporate cannabis in its historical and natural setting, The Emerald Triangle. As one of the first and only festivals to have a compliant pot component in past years, the festival is redefining the stigma around marijuana. In April, Northern Nights announced a partnership with both the Emerald Cup and Star Hill, which will mean this year's Tree Lounge is going to be bigger and better than ever. And with pot now legal, we can only imagine what this partnership will bring to attendees.

Last year was the debut of the Bunker Stage, a new addition to the NNMF campgrounds. Tucked into a massive hill, the Bunker Stage is a natural amphitheater that overlooks the river and gazes into the starry night. This year, we can expect the Bunker Stage to host headliners late into the night in a renegade style. As lights bounce off the hill and into the sky, the setting creates more of a late-night after-hours vibe. Bring out your furry jackets and be sure to say hi to the goats as you head up to this new immersive experience.

In between yoga or acoustic sets from NNMF headliners, The Grove hosts an amazing Burlesque show that is a must-see. As the sun sets on the festival, The Grove is transformed into a seemingly alternative universe of music, comedy, and dancing. Body-positive burlesque dancing captivates attendees as the ladies use different interactive themes to energize the crowd.

As cliche as it sounds, the best part of Northern Nights is the memories you hold onto and friends you make that last a lifetime once the festival is over. Whether it's lounging in the hammocks or playing a pick-up game of kickball in the Fun Field, your heart will truly feel full of love and happiness the entire weekend. The Redwoods have become home to many love stories and blossomed friendships that stay with you once the weekend of magic ends.
